DENTAL FEAR HAVE YOU AVOIDING THE DENTIST?
If you suffer from dental phobia – fear no more!
Dr. O’Donnell respects the power of dental fear. It stops people from going to the dentist, and that can have a major impact on the health of your teeth, your physical health and your mental outlook.
He is happy to offer sedation, or gentle dentistry which will allow you to experience dentistry in a whole new way. While engaging in a pleasant sleep-like experience, Dr. O’Donnell will be hard at work making sure you ‘wake up’ with the beautiful new smile and results you desire.
For Dr. O’Donnell, technology enables him to offer patients a choice over their treatment. A lot of patient’s dental fear stems from them being anxious because they do not feel in control of the situation. By incorporating new technology into his practice, Dr. O’Donnell creates talking points, gives patients opportunities to discuss their treatment (and their fears) and starts to build a stronger patient-doctor relationship which is extremely important to him.
The ability to build rapport with patients is critical to the gentle dentistry concept. Dr. O’Donnell places great emphasis on spending more time with his patients, discovering more about how they want to be treated and ensuring that they feel comfortable before the treatment progresses. For some dental phobic patients, small steps matter a great deal and they may need to schedule their treatment over a number of visits. For others, their phobia means that they just want their treatment over and done with as soon as possible – so they need their treatment compressed into just one visit. Dr. O’Donnell is happy to accommodate.
Dr. O’Donnell has built his approach to the way that he practices around key areas; his dental skill, his investment in new technologies, his technique and the overall experience he provides his patients which is second to none.
Trust Dr. O’Donnell’s dedication to gentle. Whether you suffer from panic attacks, claustrophobia in the dental chair, or have had traumatic dental experiences in the past, trust that Dr. O’Donnell will have solutions to make your experience free of anxiety and pain and make sure you’re as comfortable as you can be, helping to create a better patient experience that many phobia sufferers find more reassuring and more relaxing
WHAT TYPES OF SEDATION DENTISTRY METHODS ARE OFFERED?
Dr. O’Donnell offers two main types of sedation dentistry:
- Nitrous Oxide, often called ‘laughing gas’, allows for a light level of relaxation and sedation to be achieved. You breathe nitrous oxide through a mask placed over your nose, while supervised by the dentist. Patients typically report a relaxed, dreamy mental state. When your dental work is complete, you will begin inhaling oxygen and the effects of the nitrous will immediately dissipate.
- Oral Sedation is the effective use of a prescribed medication taken shortly before treatment. You’ll relax comfortably into a state of conscious sedation. You’ll be awake and able to respond to instructions from Dr. O’Donnell, but you’ll also be deeply relaxed and won’t remember the appointment afterward. If this is your preferred route, be aware you will need someone to drive you home after treatme
We create A Comfortable Space
Dr, O’Donnell is your go to along the Gulf Coast for gentle dentistry. Your comfort is a top priority; there’s no reason you should ever feel anxious with Dr. O’Donnell and his team by your side.
CAN I DRIVE MYSELF HOME AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?
This depends on which method you choose. With Nitrous Oxide, the effects immediately dissipate so it is safe for you to drive. With Oral Sedation, you may still be in a heavily relaxed state, so you will need someone to drive you to and from your dental appointment, Any method or medication used will wear off by 24 hours.
IS SEDATION DENTISTRY SAFE?
Absolutely! Sedation dentistry methods have been used for many years now. The techniques we use are in compliance with the guidelines and standards set by The American Dental Association (ADA).
